The 2002 Men’s Soccer Team was the first overall squad to make history in Pike Creek.  The Lightning that year advanced to the 16-team NAIA Tournament, marking the first team appearance by the College in a national championship tournament.  The squad won the NAIA Independent Region Tournament before defeating Maine-Fort Kent and Green Mountain to win the Region X Tournament.  It remains the furthest a Goldey-Beacom squad has advanced in a national tournament, which was duplicated by the 2018-19 women's tennis team that played in the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament.  The 2002 unit ended that season 16-7 overall and included Goldey-Beacom Athletics Hall of Famers Jason McCloskey (2017), Matt DiGiacobbe (2022) and Dan DiGiacobbe (2022).  The team won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular-season title, but was ineligible for the conference tournament as it still competed on the NAIA level.
