Box Score Wilmington, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team held a 2-1 halftime advantage Saturday afternoon before cruising to a 6-2 victory over Concordia College at Churchman-Sawin Field.
With the win, the Lightning improve to 7-4-1 on the year and 4-4-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play while the Clippers fall to 0-12-1 overall and 0-11-0 in the CACC.
In total, five different GBC players recorded at least one goal while four players tallied an assist on the day. Senior captain
Alexandra Smith (Pennsville Memorial H.S./Pennsville, N.J.) led all scorers with two goals while freshman
Kelsey Vick (Paul VI H.S./Clarksboro, N.J.) picked up a goal and an assist.
Sophomore
Becca Cordo (Hightstown H.S./Roosevelt, N.J.) scored her first career goal in the 22
nd minute in an impressive 30-yard shot that sailed over Concordia goalie Samantha Street's head and into the right upper corner of the net to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead.
The Clippers tied the game in the 25
th minute, but GBC went up, 2-1, less than 30 seconds later when Smith took Street one-on-one on the other side of the field for her 11
th goal of the year.
The Lightning opened the second half of play rallying off four consecutive goals to take control of the 6-1 game, with scores coming from senior captain
Nicole Curry (Lenape H.S./Mt. Laurel, N.J.), Smith, junior
Valarie Orth (Schalick, H.S./Pittsgrove, N.J.) and Vick.
Haley Horn collected a free kick goal in the 85
th minute for Concordia, but it was too little too late as GBC came out with the win.
Sophomore
Cindell Aguirre (Coronado H.S./El Paso, Texas) earned the win for the Lightning after recording two saves in nearly 69 minutes of work. Freshman
Marie Goodman (BCIT-Westampton H.S./Wilingboro, N.J.) came in relief of Aguirre and posted 22 minutes of play with two saves.
Street was credited with the loss despite registering five saves.
The Lightning outshot the Clippers, 23-11, and also held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
GBC returns to the field with a 3 p.m. game Monday against Wilmington University at Churchman-Sawin field in a makeup game that was rescheduled from Oct. 15 due to weather.
