Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls, 2-0, in Season Opener to Pace

Goldey-Beacom welcomed a new era with impressive play, but in the end was handed a 2-0 loss by Pace at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field.

The game marked the debut of Heather Faasse as the program's new head coach.  The first full-time coach and the first female coach in program history, Faasse arrives after serving the last two seasons at Virginia Military Academy, first as an assistant coach and last year as the associate head coach.  She helped lead the program's recruiting that included national outreach, evaluation and scholarship planning that increased the quality of recruits.

Both teams were looking for that all-important goal, but an unfortunate misplay by the Lightning aided the Setters.  Meredith Klosek picked up the loose change just outside the box and fed Bindiya Wadhwani, who found the back of the net in the 40th minute.

Goldey-Beacom had multiple opportunities, but could not find the equalizer.  Ava Jordan put away things for Pace by scoring in the 78th minute for a 2-0 margin.

Senior Lexy Yeager (West Deptford, NJ) had five shots and sophomore Maria Empadinhas (Cascais, Portugal), making her first start, amassed three saves for Goldey-Beacom (0-1).  Siena McCree notched five saves and Jordan fired nine shots off the bench for Pace (1-0).

Goldey-Beacom on Sunday is at Mercy for a 1:00 pm game.
