WILMINGTON, Del. - Sophomore middle hitter
Anisa Smith (Campolindo H.S./Moraga, Calif.) tallied a match-high 13 kills and hit .462 as the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (1-2) earned its first win of the season, a three-set victory over Goldey-Beacom College (2-2) at the Jones Center on Saturday afternoon.
Smith, who was one of three Riverhawks with at least 10 kills, also contributed five digs as the Riverhawks defeated the Lightning by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-21.
Junior outside hitter
Brooke Peterson (Torrey Pines H.S./Del Mar, Calif.) contributed 11 kills and six digs while hitting .409 in the match. Meanwhile, junior middle hitter
Jamie Muntz (Conard H.S./West Hartford, Conn.) had 11 kills as the Riverhawks hit .275 as a team, including .317 in the third set.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) led the Lightning in a losing effort with nine kills and a match-high 15 digs while senior setter/opposite
Monica Dempsey (Secaucus H.S./Secaucus, N.J.) posted 11 assists and seven digs.
The Lightning recorded 4.0 team blocks in the loss, including a pair of assisted blocks by senior middle hitter
Catherine Howard (William Penn H.S./New Castle, Del.).
The Lightning, who had their two-match win streak snapped, will host Bowie State on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
