Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball's Season Ends With 3-0 Loss at Bridgeport in the CACC Quarterfinals

Goldey-Beacom battled throughout in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinal match at Bridgeport, but was handed a 3-0 loss (24-26, 15-25, 20-25) in Bridgeport, CT.

It was yet another incredible season for the Lightning (16-13, 10-5 CACC), who played in the CACC Tournament in consecutive years for the first time since 2006.  The squad had a pair of five-match winning streaks and amassed its greatest win total since getting 25 victories in its 2005 CACC championship campaign.

Goldey-Beacom in the opening set was in a 15-11 deficit before going on a 13-7 run in gaining a 24-22 lead.  Freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT) had four of her six kills in the set during that spurt.

But the Purple Knights (10-17, 9-5) reversed course by taking the next four points to win the set, keyed by two kills from Hailey Jessen.

The Lightning in set two kept things close early in only trailing 11-10.  However, the Purple Knights ended things on a 14-5 run to grab a two-set lead thanks to two kills apiece from Jessen and Lucia Tomiello.

Bridgeport in the second set pounded 11 kills and committed just one error for a .476 hitting percentage.

Goldey-Beacom more than battled in the third set, repeatedly winning tough points and refusing to go away.  But Bridgeport owned a 15-13 kills edge in the stanza and only committed four errors.

Gingras ended with 10 kills, Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) dished 28 assists and fellow sophomore Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) added 21 digs.

Jessen simply was phenomenal with 15 kills and 11 digs, Madison Mohan had 12 kills with Camdyn Cieszkiewicz adding 32 assists and 11 digs for Bridgeport.

We still invite everyone to the Jones Center this weekend as Goldey-Beacom will host Championship Weekend of the CACC Tournament.  The first semifinal on Saturday at noon is between Post and either Holy Family or Felician.  The second semifinal at 2:30 pm is between Bridgeport and either Wilmington (DE) or Dominican (NY).
