PIKE CREEK, Del. - A Richard Heredia goal in the 73rd minute lifted Concordia College to a 1-0 victory over the Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Sat. afternoon at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Athletic Field.

Junior goalkeeper Ignacio Farias was terrific in goal, stopping eight of Concordia's shots, including a few diving saves. Farias made one of his diving stops on a shot by Concordia's Ekene Okereke, but Heredia was there to put home the rebound to score the game's only goal.

The Clippers (1-4, 1-1 CACC) outshot the Lightning, 24-16 and doubled them up 6-3 in corner kicks. Oscar Acosta-Mendez picked up the shutout victory, making nine difficult saves in 90 minutes of work.

Freshman Juan Perez, sophomores Andre Jank and Thatcher Howell, and senior Erlin Rodezno each took three shots to lead the Lightning. Senior Rob Cann also fired a shot from outside of the box that nearly skipped off the slick Churchman Field grass and past Acosta-Mendez in the second half as rain started to fall.

Rodezno and Jank each had nice runs that resulted in scoring opportunities, including Rodezno's shot on goal with under seven minutes left to play in regulation. Acosta-Mendez was up to the task, however, and batted the ball away to keep the Lightning scoreless.

Cann, senior Carlos Bastardo and freshmen Connor Mathis, Chris Brake and Terah Garnett all did a superb job on the GBC back line to hold the Clippers to just one goal.
