PIKE CREEK, Del. - The Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by Bloomsburg University on Senior Day, Wed. afternoon at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.

The Lightning had a few good scoring opportunities but could not capitalize as the Huskies' Bernie Roell made five saves to preserve the shutout. Junior Ignacio Farias made one save for GBC in 59 minutes before he was relieved by sophomore Carlos Meinhard for the final 31 minutes. Meinhard finished with three saves.

Freshman Juan Perez came off the bench to lead the Lightning with five shots and junior Matt Bik took four. Ken Thatcher Howell also took two shots, putting both on goal.

After 14 minutes of scoreless action, Roman Loboda headed in a direct kick from Matt Cannon to give the Huskies an early lead. Loboda's header was the Huskies first shot of the game. The Lightning out-shot Bloomsburg 8-5 in the first half, but trailed 1-0 at the intermission.

Almost five minutes into the second session, Nick Izzo added an insurance goal for Bloomsburg to make it 2-0. After a Huskies throw-in, Izzo dribbled down the right side of the field and lofted a shot in the air from about 30 yards out that sailed over the head of an over-extended Farias for the goal.

Bloomsburg went on to take 11 shots to GBC's six in the second half and take four corner kicks while the Lightning managed none.

Before the game, Goldey-Beacom honored the Lightning's four 2011 seniors: Kwame Appiah, Carlos Bastardo, Rob Cann and Erlin Rodezno.

The Lightning conclude the 2011 season with an away match at Caldwell College tomorrow at 3 p.m.
