PHILADELPHIA - The Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team sputtered offensively as it fell to host Philadelphia University, 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on an overcast Wed. afternoon at Ravenhill Field.
Junior goalkeeper
Ignacio Farias made seven saves in 90 minutes of work in a losing effort for the Lightning while PhilaU's Thomas Attamante stopped two shots by GBC junior
Matt Bik to preserve the shutout victory.
The Lightning defense was superb as the game was scoreless for the first 20 minutes of action. The Rams opened the scoring as John Hlava scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Milos Racic in the 21st minute.
GBC's backline did its job to keep the Lightning in striking distance for the remainder of the half, but David Lawrence netted an insurance goal for PhilaU a little over five minutes into the second half to put his team up 2-0. GBC was outshot 6-2 in the second half (13-2 for the game), and despite a terrific defensive effort, the Lightning would lose by that 2-0 margin.
The Lightning again go on the road to take on Felician College in East Rutherford, N.J. on Sat. night at 8 p.m.
