The Lightning fell down 1-0 after they lost the first set 25-16, but came back to take the next three sets to claim their second victory of the season.

With the score tied at 23 apiece in the second game, Shaner came up with a clutch kill off an assist from Dempsey to put the Lightning in front 24-23. She then served for the game point, and Catherine Howard came up with one of her five blocks to give GBC the set victory, 25-23.

Goldey-Beacom scored the first four points in the third set, and then gradually pulled away with leads of 10-5 and 19-10 as the Lightning cruised to a 25-15 third-set victory.

The fourth and final set saw GBC come back from a 19-17 deficit to ultimately win the set, 25-22. Dempsey's kill off an assist from senior Lauren Witzke started a 4-0 run that gave the Lightning a 21-19 lead. Howard and Shaner each added a kill during this run.

GBC shut the door on STA after a Lauren Ross kill brought the Hawks within one, 23-22. Wells came up with a clutch kill to bring the set to match point, and then the match ended on an STA attack error.

The Lightning (2-1) will host their first home game of the season on Tues. night at 6 p.m. in the Joseph West Jones Center versus Lincoln University. GBC won both matches against the Lions last year.
