RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team used a solid team effort to earn a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at Felician College on Sat. afternoon at Job Gymnasium.
The Lightning (8-18, 2-15) slipped by the Golden Falcons (5-21, 4-13 CACC) 25-23 in both the first and second sets, lost 25-14 in the third set, but regained composure and won the fourth set 25-19.
Junior middle hitter Rebecca Stoffer had a season-high 16 kills as part of a double-double that also included 11 digs. Meanwhile, number 14 Roni Shaner had a triple-double of 14's, including a season-high 14 kills and 14 assists and digs. Sophomore setter Monica Dempsey directed the offense with 29 assists and she also contributed with 12 digs.
Senior defensive specialist A.J. Hicks led a collaborative team effort defensively with 17 digs. She was one of five Lightning players in double-figures in the digs column including graduate student Lauren Witzke, who tied her season and career-high with 11.
Next up for the Lightning is a home match against crosstown rival Wilmington University at 7 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 4 GBC will honor its two graduating seniors, Lauren Witzke and A.J. Hicks.
With two matches left, the Lightning are just one win short of tying last year's mark of nine wins. They face Wilmington on Thurs. and Dominican on Sat., Nov. 6.
