PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team hit a season-high .221 as a team led by sophomore Renee DeLeo's seven kills and freshman Tyla Wells' five, but it was not enough as the Lightning suffered their ninth straight defeat, 3-0 against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Nyack on Sat. afternoon at the Jones Center.

The Lightning lost in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-20 as their record fell to 3-10 overall and 3-6 in league play. Nyack improved to 3-8 overall and 3-6 in the CACC.

DeLeo hit .500 (7k 0e 14 ta) en-route to tying her career-high for kills and also pitched in with a solo block and two digs. Wells hit .214 (5k 2e 14 ta) as she leads the team with 80 kills on the season.

Sophomore setter Monica Dempsey directed the offense with 13 assists and also pitched in defensively with five digs. Senior defensive specialist A.J. Hicks led the team with eight digs for the day as she surpassed the 800-mark for digs in her career.

Junior Roni Shaner had a great day serving the ball as she collected three aces for the afternoon. She is second on the team with 14 service aces this year, and she is just seven away from tying Tessa Snyder (2003-06) for third on the school's career aces list.

Nyack was led by the CACC kills leader Moana Masoniai who registered a game-high 16 kills with a hitting percentage of .452 and also collected nine digs. Brianna Kane directed the offense with 30 assists to go with four service aces and nine digs. Amelia Moore was also in double-figures for kills with 11 as she hit .360 for the day.

The Lightning hit the ball particularly well in the first set (9k 1e 19 ta, .421%) as DeLeo was a perfect 4-for-4, junior Roni Shaner was 2-for-3 and freshman Stephanie Kline (1-for-1) caught the Warriors out of position and collected a kill on her only attempt of the match.

Still, they had no answer for Masoniai, who registered eight of her 16 kills for the match in the first set. Nyack hit .462 (14k 2e 26ta) as a team and eventually outlasted GBC, 25-17.

The second set saw Amelia Moore heat up with four of her 11 kills and Masoniai continued to stay hot with four kills of her own as the Warriors won set two, 25-15. DeLeo again led the Lightning with three kills.

GBC continued to fight for a set victory, making a strong push near the end of the third set to force extra play but ultimately falling, 25-20 to lose the match. A determined Lightning team stayed close for much of that third set despite only converting four kills and committing four hitting errors on 25 attempts.

The Lightning next go on the road to face Lincoln in non-conference play Tues. night. GBC defeated Lincoln 3-0 this season back on Sept. 7 at the Jones Center.
