WILMINGTON, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team played defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament champion Georgian Court to a 1-1 tie at halftime, but surrendered three second half goals and lost at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field, 4-1 on a windy Tues. afternoon.

The loss drops GBC to 0-8 (0-5 CACC) on the season, while GCU, an NCAA Regional Tournament qualifier last season, improves to 5-5 (3-1 CACC).

Sophomore Karin Eriksson scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season just a little over a minute into the action when she sent a shot that deflected off a Lion defender and into the net for an early 1-0 GBC advantage.

A little less than nine minutes later, GCU's Skyler Eiceman scored an unassisted goal to tie the score at one apiece, and neither team would score for the remainder of the first half.

As the weather started to get colder, so did both offenses for nearly the first 20 minutes of the second half. GCU, which took eight corner kicks to GBC's two and held a 25-14 advantage for the game, outshot the Lightning 15-9 in the second half.

GCU's Taylor Reinecke would break the tie at 62:48 when she put in a shot off a cross by Shannon Mastrogiovanni to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.

Not two minutes later, GCU's Candace Seaton's shot was deflected by GBC freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Vetrano only to find the foot of Kelly Lyons who shot into the empty net.

Seaton would score her own goal at 70:34, taking goalkeeper Lindsay Hammond's clear down the field and rocketing a shot past Vetrano for the Lions' fourth and final goal of the day.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Degenhardt came back from injury to start for the Lightning today. She made four saves and allowed one goal in the first half.

Vetrano relieved Degenhardt in the second half and made seven stops while allowing three goals.
