Goldey-Beacom Volleyball Team Shut Out in Both IUP Tournament Matches

INDIANA, Pa. - Freshman Monica Dempsey led the Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team with a combined 21 assists and sophomore outside hitter Roni Shaner led the Lightning with eight kills, but GBC was shut out, 3-0 in both of its Indiana University of Pennsylvania Tournament matches on Friday.
 
The Lightning (2-5) first lost to Shepherd University by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-14, and then were overwhelmed by the host, IUP, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-7. 

Against Shepherd, sophomore outside hitter Amanda Mills and fifth-year senior outside hitter Kellyn Nolan led the Lightning with four kills apiece, but GBC struggled to a .075 attack percentage, including a -.143 attack percentage in the first set.

GBC had no answer for Shepherd's Amanda Hall, who had seven kills and a .417 attack percentage. As a team, Shepherd had a .373 attack percentage for the game. 

Shepherd also had 23 assists, led by Lauren Jeschelnik with 11, and the Lightning had 15, led by Dempsey's eight.

In the second game of the day, Goldey-Beacom took on the host, IUP. Dempsey did her part again with 13 assists and four digs, and Shaner pitched in with five kills and five digs. 

However, the Crimson Hawks cruised to a shutout victory on the strength of Laura McFadden's nine kills and eight digs. Chelsey Kreinbrook also had a big night with 25 assists for IUP.

Goldey-Beacom, who has been shutout its last four matches and gone winless in its last 15 sets, will play two more games this afternoon against Slippery Rock University and West Virginia State University.
