Junior guard A.J. Picard of the Lightning men's basketball team earned his second "Athlete of the Month" honor this season after leading Goldey-Beacom with a 17.1 scoring average in January. A starter in all seven games last month, the Skippack, Pa. native scored in double figures in six of the seven contests.
On Jan. 15, Picard scored a career-high 38 points in the Lightning's 105-99 loss against Chestnut Hill at the Joseph West Jones College Center. He made 10 of 21 shots from the floor, including 5 of 11 three-point attempts, and went 13-for-14 from the free throw line. Picard, who scored 25 of his points in the second half, missed tying the Goldey-Beacom single-game record by one point and earned CACC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for his effort.
In addition, Picard also scored 22 points with a season-high eight rebounds in the Lightning's overtime victory over the University of the Sciences on Jan. 29, which snapped a seven-game losing streak.
The only GBC player to start every game this season, Picard is the Lightning's second-leading scorer with a 14.9 average and has a team-high 49 assists.
