9/8/2025 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom made its mark in the opening week of awards from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with sophomore Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) picked Volleyball's Defensive Player of the Week, freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT) named to the sport's Weekly Honor Roll and sophomore Jessica Jensen (Las Vegas, NV) tabbed to Women's Soccer's Weekly Honor Roll.

Fernandez ended with 93 digs over four matches.  She had 25 digs in three separate matches and 18 on Saturday vs. Seton Hill.

Fernandez is coming off an outstanding debut campaign in which she was named second team all-league, ending 23rd in the country and second in the conference with 583 digs.  She earned five separate weekly awards from the league during the campaign.

Gingras closed with 36 kills, 31 digs and two blocks over four matches.  She notched 11 kills and 10 digs Saturday vs. Shippensburg, 10 kills Friday at Clarion and 10 digs Saturday against Seton Hill.

Goldey-Beacom enters this season full of promise after getting 15 victories a season ago under first-year coach Alexa Poss, one year after winning just five sets.

Jensen exceled in her Goldey-Beacom debut, scoring twice in Thursday's contest at Shippensburg.

Jensen is a transfer from Whittier College who was tabbed Newcomer of the Year by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, one of the best Division III women's soccer conferences in the country.

Last season was the first for new coach Mitch Kazanjian, who joined the squad a mere weeks before its commencement and received a great deal of performance and effort from the student-athletes.  Goldey-Beacom went into the final match day with a chance of making the CACC Tournament.

Volleyball on Wednesday visits Millersville and Women's Soccer is off until Saturday, when it hosts Molloy at 1:00 pm.
