Women’s Soccer Reveals 2022 Schedule

8/4/2022 12:00:00 AM

(2022 schedule)

Coming off yet another strong year that featured yet another trip to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, Goldey-Beacom returns for what it hopes is another solid campaign against competitive teams on the 2022 schedule.

Goldey-Beacom opens its season August 26 at home against Saint Thomas Aquinas before traveling two days later to Bloomsburg.  The squad then makes a weekend trip to New England to face Saint Anselm on September 2 and Franklin Pierce two days later.

League play begins September 10 at home against Bloomfield.  Other key conference games include reigning conference champion Jefferson on September 21 in East Falls and CACC newcomer Bridgeport at home three days later.

Goldey-Beacom will host a rebranded Homecoming and Lightning Family Weekend October 7-9.  The weekend's events include opportunities for alums to come back on campus to reunite with many friends and also see the many changes that many who continue to be part of the family help ignite.  It also will give an opportunity for parents to come on campus and spend time with their kids as part of an atmosphere filled with festivities and fun.

Both soccer teams on October 8 host Nyack.

The home finale is October 15 against Dominican (NY) and the regular season ends October 25 at 2021 CACC finalist Wilmington (DE).

The top eight teams compete in the CACC Tournament with the quarterfinals on October 31 and championship weekend taking place on the campus of Holy Family University in Philadelphia from November 4-6.

A major component back at forward is sophomore Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, Del), last season picked first team CCA All-East Region, first team All-CACC and CACC Rookie of the Year.  She immediately cracked the starting lineup and was a dominant force with her exceptional scoring ability, tremendous passing skills and overall knowledge of the collegiate game.

Among her astounding numbers, Ruggeri ended seventh in the country with 2.06 points per game, 10th with 0.56 assists per contest, 18th with nine assists, 20th with 33 points, 22nd with 0.75 goals per game and 34th with 12 goals.  She led the CACC in assists and points in addition to closing second in goals.

Junior Noel Talbot (Westminster, MD) has been outstanding in goal the last two seasons and in 2021 finally got recognition in being picked second team all-league, finishing as the only GBC player to start all 17 contests.  A great teammate who once again looks to be among the Lightning's top players, Talbot enters the year third in team history with a 1.52 goals against average, fourth with six shutouts and seventh with 132 saves.

Sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) is one of three players who made 16 starts a season ago and once again looks to provide solid minutes on defense and at midfield.  Also a member of the softball team, Lowry played a big role in the women's soccer squad recording six shutouts and a total of 12 games in which it did not permit more than one goal.

Goldey-Beacom (10-7, 7-4 CACC) last season advanced to the CACC Tournament a school-record seventh straight year, notched a school-record fifth straight season with double-digit victories and went into the conference tournament with a six-game winning streak that tied the school record.

Please note beginning this season, there no longer is overtime in the regular season in college soccer.  If a game is level after 90 minutes, it ends in a tie.
