Women’s Soccer's CACC Quarterfinal Game Moved to Delaware FC

10/28/2022 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's quarterfinal game in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament against Holy Family has been moved to Delaware FC in Hockessin, DE.

The contest between the fifth-seeded Tigers and the fourth-seeded Lightning on Monday, October 31 remains a 1:00 pm start.  The teams in the regular season played to a 1-1 draw, thanks to freshman Mariah McQueen (Baltimore, MD) hustling to a loose ball and scoring for Goldey-Beacom in the 89th minute.

This marks the school-record eighth straight competitive year GBC (9-7-1, 7-4-1) is in the CACC Tournament.  Goldey-Beacom is aiming to extend its school record of double-digit victories to a sixth straight season.

Goldey-Beacom's offense begins with the outstanding play of sophomore Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, DE), a dynamic forward who does it all with her outstanding scoring touch, sensational passing ability and overall knowledge of the game.  One of the toughest players in the area to defend, she does it all with the additional attention around her even after being named 2021 CACC Rookie of the Year, first team All-CACC and first team CCA All-East Region.

Ruggeri is second in the nation with a school-record 13 assists, third with 0.81 assists per game, seventh with 37 points, seventh with 2.31 points per contest, 19th with 12 goals and 23rd with 0.75 goals per game.  Her points are fourth in team history, her goals are tied for ninth and both her assists and points are tops in the conference.

For her career, Ruggeri is third with 22 assists, seventh with 70 points and eighth with 24 goals.

Another major reason why the Lightning have gotten this far is the overall play of sophomore defenseman Alexa Pacheco (Santo Domingo, DR).  A gifted athlete and tremendous competitor, Pacheco has played a massive role in shutting down the opposition and helping generate play to the midfielders and forward.  This has played a huge role in Goldey-Beacom recording six shutouts and four additional games in which it did not permit more than one goal.

Sophomore Angela Lee (Warren, RI) has done an outstanding job complimenting Ruggeri regarding the team's scoring and passing.  Another great teammate who has proven to be a valuable asset this season, Lee is 14th in the nation with nine assists, 46th with 23 points and ninth in the league with seven goals.

Sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ), who also excels with the softball team, can do it all as a multi-faceted player and that solid play has her ninth in the conference with seven goals, 10th with four assists and 10th with 18 points.  McQueen, a valuable addition who makes everyone around her better, is ninth in the league with seven goals and 15th with 15 points.
