Gonzalo Moreno Named CACC Men’s Golf Player and Rookie of the Week

A more than impressive showing for Goldey-Beacom freshman Gonzalo Moreno (Seville, Spain) not only put him in the record books, but it also got him the nod as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Golf Player and Rookie of the Week.

Moreno was a force during his first collegiate tournament, ending tied for third at the FPU Fall Invitational. He shot a final-round 69 for the fifth-best round in program history and closed with 145, tied for the 13th-best 36-hole total in team annals.

The Lightning ended the tournament fifth with 601, the fourth-best mark in team history. The team's 295 total in the final round was three strokes off the school record.

Goldey-Beacom also beat out CACC foes Post, Chestnut Hill, Felician and University of the Sciences.

Moreno was among many newcomers who brought the New Hampshire course to its knees. Pablo Saenz Avila (Bogota, Colombia) was tied for 13th with 149 and fellow freshman Hunter McGee (Carp, ON) closed tied for 26th with 153.

Goldey-Beacom is off until September 30, when it will play in the Jefferson Classic at The Ace Club in Lafayette Hill, PA.
