Goldey-Beacom once again got great all-around play as it concluded action Monday at the ITA East Regional, contested at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.

Sophomores Lotte Lesscher y Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) opened Monday with a 9-7 victory over Luisa Auffarth and Reehan Rashad from Queens (NY) in the doubles semifinal.  The run ended in heartbreaking fashion as the Lightning's top tandem dropped a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) decision to Barbara Quagliardi and Diana Baumgartnere from New York Tech.

This marked the second straight year GBC competed in the doubles final.  Last year, it was junior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) and then teammate Fredrika Regner falling to Alessia Rossetti and Lena Dimmer, also in a match tiebreak.

Another highlight this year from doubles saw Hortelano Pey and senior Manuela Cornejo (Quito, Ecuador) advancing to the last 16.  They won two tight matches to get to the fourth round before falling in a match tiebreak.

Lesscher y Post and Zheng also had a strong run in singles.  Each earned a first-round bye and won their first match to advance to the third round.

Goldey-Beacom is in action Tuesday against University of the Sciences.  Please note the 5:30 pm match will take place at the University of Pennsylvania.
