Women’s Tennis Handed 4-0 Loss by Wilmington in the CACC Semifinals

Goldey-Beacom more than came to play against Wilmington (DE) in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Tournament semifinals, but was dealt a 4-0 loss at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

Goldey-Beacom (5-6) was appearing in the CACC Tournament for the 14th time in school history and the second consecutive year, clinching the third seed for championship weekend.  The Lightning won the title in 2016 and 2017.

Sophomore Camilla Franzin (Trieste, Italy), picked first team All-CACC, and senior Lucia Corte (Gijon, Spain) had things going early for the Lightning.  The duo took charge at first doubles and amassed a 6-2 triumph over Molly Carlberg and Ming Fu Chen.

But the Wildcats took the doubles point.  Siana MacDonald and Maria Ines Oliveira got a 6-3 win over freshman Jenna Frank (Ulm, Germany), named second team all-league, and senior Elina Mukhamadeeva (Kazan, Russia) at No. 2 doubles before Gloria Barcaro and Elena Camacho clinched the point with a 6-4 victory at third doubles vs. freshman Ana Thaler and sophomore Ihsane Achouri (Casablanca, Morocco).

GBC kept the intensity going with a trio of first-set singles wins.  Franzin took her first set against MacDonald, 6-4, in first singles, Frank notched a 7-5 victory over Yelyzaveta Sylka at No. 2 singles and Thaler took the first, 6-4, over Barcaro at fifth singles.

But second-seeded Wilmington (9-2) won three singles rubbers to take the match.  Carlberg got a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Corte at third singles, Chen notched a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mukhamadeeva at No. 4 singles and Camacho got a 6-1, 6-1 triumph vs. Achouri at sixth singles.

Wilmington will face top-seeded Jefferson on Sunday at noon for the league's title and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
