Women's Soccer | 10/29/2016 12:00:00 AM

A hefty week of soccer is on tap with Goldey-Beacom's men's and women's teams both competing in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.

The women's squad (12-5-1, 8-3-1 CACC) is the number three seed in the eight-team field and host No. 6 seed Holy Family (8-7-2, 7-3-2) in the quarterfinals Monday at 2:00 pm at the Hockessin Soccer Club.

The men's team (9-6-2, 6-4-2) is the sixth seed and will make the short trip to New Castle to face No. 3 seed Wilmington (11-5-1, 7-4-1) on Tuesday at 2:00 pm.

The quarterfinal winners advance to championship weekend, which takes place on the campus of Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ.  The semifinals are Friday, the women's final is Sunday at 10:00 am and the men's final is at 12:30 pm.

Tickets for all games are $6 for adults and $3 for children, senior citizens and students with a valid ID.  Children under age 3 are admitted free.

Please note Georgian Court University has a NO PETS (except service dogs) and NO SMOKING policy.  Everyone's cooperation is greatly appreciated.

The women have received exceptional play up top from junior Amy Runciman (Luton, England), who has been one of the team's most reliable scorers over the last two seasons.  Her play whether it is her scoring touch or passing ability has her 23rd in the nation with nine assists, 39th with 0.47 assists per game, fifth in the CACC with 21 points and 10th overall with six goals.

Runciman is tied for fifth in team history with 18 goals, second overall with 25 assists and fourth with 61 points.

Sophomore Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) continues to be a solid player at midfield and also has a balance between her scoring and passing.  She is 90th in the country with five assists and tied for 24th in the league with 11 points to go with her nine career goals and 24 career points.

Senior Cindell Aguirre (El Paso, TX) has been an extremely valuable component in the Lightning's defense, giving up just 17 goals this season and notching seven shutouts.  She is fifth in the country with 1,679 minutes played, 50th with 91 saves, 52nd with an .827 save percentage and 90th with 5.06 saves per contest.

Aguirre earlier this season became the school's career leader in shutouts and now stands at 15.  Her 260 career saves are third best in team history and her seven shutouts this year are tied for first in school annals.

Sophomore Sophie Woods (Manchester, England) has been a strong addition to the squad, sitting tied for 24th in the league with 11 points and tied for 28th with four goals.

This will be the Lightning's first home conference tournament game since 2005, when the squad also was a number three seed and advanced to the conference final.  That also was the last time the squad won a conference-tournament game.

The men have received a balanced attack with no player scoring more than four goals.  Junior Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) has been an incredible midfielder, possessing all of the skills necessary to help any program move forward.  His 12 points, second best on the squad, truly do not explain his overall impressive play the last three seasons and his ability to make others better.

Sophomore Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) owns some of the best footwork of anyone in the conference and his incredible speed certainly does not hurt.  Named CoSIDA Academic All-District, he is tied for sixth in the league with five assists and tied for 15th with 13 points.

Sophomore Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) is one of the league's top goalkeepers and also one of the team's leaders with his vocal play and solid intuition.  He is 58th in the nation with a 1.11 goals against average, 67th with a .760 save percentage and 79th with 57 saves.

Junior Declyn Brown (Glasgow, Scotland) is a solid leader in all facets of the game and is tied for 17th in the league with four goals along with sitting tied for 24th with nine points.

This marks the second straight year and third time overall the Lightning visit the Wildcats in the quarterfinals.  GBC has not won a tournament game since 2003, when it won its only conference title.
