PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Senior infielder Samira Tanaka (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had two hits and drove in four runs as Nova Southeastern University (9-5) erupted for 13 runs en route to its fifth win in a row, a 13-0 non-conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (0-3) at the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish Showdown on Saturday afternoon.

Led by Tanaka, who also scored twice in the victory, the Sharks handed the Lightning their third loss in a row while posting their fourth shutout win of the season.

The Sharks scored four times in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. After a groundout by junior Melanie Spicola (Christian Home and Bible School/Umatilla, Fla.) drove in the game's first run, Tanaka hit a two-run single to increase the margin to 3-0. She scored on a bunt single by junior outfielder Lorena Spaulding (The Hollywood Christian Academy/Pembroke Pines, Fla.) to give the Sharks a 4-0 edge.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Sharks extended their margin to 13-0 by scoring nine times off six hits. From there, they held Goldey-Beacom to just one hit over the next two innings to secure the five-inning victory.

While Tanaka led the Sharks to the victory, Spaulding also drove in a pair of runs while collecting two hits.

Senior infielder Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) and sophomore infielder Asia Ellis (Lenape H.S./Marlton, N.J.) each posted a hit for the Lightning while freshman Amber Wroble (Chopticon H.S./Mechanicsville, Md.) walked twice.

The Lightning, who have been held to just four hits in their first three games, will play a pair of contests on Sunday, Feb. 23 to end their tournament schedule. After facing Lynn University at 11 a.m., Goldey-Beacom will face host Palm Beach Atlantic at 1 p.m.
