Goldey-Beacom softball faced CACC opponent Jefferson at the Jackson Athletic Complex, and came away with a 9-1, 5-inning victory in game one, before picking up a 10-7 win in game two of the doubleheader.
In game one, Jefferson scored their single run in the opening inning on a single from Ella Wheeler that plated Mackenzie Ward. GBC responded in the second inning with a two-RBI single from senior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD), an RBI-single from fellow senior Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, NJ), and an RBI from junior McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA). The Lightning continued to stay hot in the following innings, with Simpson hitting her first home-run of the season to center field to add two runs in the third and Frank and freshman Ayri Hansen (Lakewood, CA) scoring on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly from Johnson. The ninth run came in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single from Johnson to score senior Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ).
Junior Molly Skelly (Blackwood, NJ) notched her eleventh win from the mound, while striking out three across the five innings.
In game two, the Lightning came out strong, scoring three runs in the opening inning on an RBI single from Hansen, a sacrifice fly from sophomore Bri Cole (Rising Sun, MD), and an RBI-double from freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT). Jefferson rallied back in the second the fourth innings to take a 7-3 lead heading into the fifth inning. The Lightning responded to the surge from Jefferson and went on a 7-run streak on a two-RBI double from Cole, an RBI-double from Gingras, RBI-singles from Johnson, senior Emma Friel (Coatesville, PA), and Frank, and wrapped the game up with an RBI-single from Hansen that scored Johnson.Â
Goldey-Beacom plays its final regular season game on Saturday, when it faces Felician in Little Ferry, NJ for a 12:00pm doubleheader.
