Softball Drops Both at Bridgeport in the CACC Tournament

Goldey-Beacom, playing in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament a fourth straight year, dropped both its first-round contests at Bridgeport and was eliminated by scores of 8-0 and 7-5 in Bridgeport, CT.

Goldey-Beacom (20-20) now awaits its fate on whether it will make the NCAA Tournament a second straight year.  The Lightning are eighth in the latest NCAA East Region rankings with eight making the tournament and have won five of their last eight contests.

The selection show is Monday, May 11 at 10:00 am on NCAA.com.

Bridgeport (30-18) in game one of the best-of-three series got things going in the second inning with four runs for a 4-0 lead thanks to RBI hits from Sydnee Perreault, Breanna Pelaez, Paityn Thibodeaux and McKenzie Morgan.  That margin went to 7-0 in the fourth, keyed by Perreault's two-run double.

Junior McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) ended with two hits for the Lightning.  Perreault and Pelaez had three hits apiece and Vise Zarate struck out five in tossing a three-hit shutout for the Purple Knights.

Goldey-Beacom in game two was the one which scored first, plating two runs in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead.  Freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT) lined an RBI double and scored when senior Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ) reached on a fielder's choice.

Gingras in the second got an RBI single and sophomore Bri Cole (Rising Sun, MD) ripped a two-run double to give the Lightning a 5-0 lead.

However, Bridgeport leveled things with five runs in the last of the second.  Sophia Philippou lined a two-run double and Perreault continued her standout day with a three-run homer.

The Purple Knights then scored twice in the fourth for the final on an RBI single from Pelaez and Perreault touching home on an error.

Gingras closed her outstanding freshman campaign with three hits on the day.  Frank, Cole and freshman Emily Smith (Delmar, DE) got two apiece.

Perreault and Philippou collected two hits apiece and Zarate tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, yielding just four hits.

Frank ends yet another impressive campaign with a .413 batting average, believed to be the program's second-best in the NCAA era.  Her 183 career hits move her into fourth in program history and second in the NCAA era.

Gingras this season hit .373 with a 1.002 OPS and fellow freshman Ayri Hansen (Lakewood, CA) also hit .373.
