Box Score Waterbury, Conn.- The #7 Lightning women's soccer team saw their season come to an end today as they were defeated by the #2 Post University Eagles 3-0 at LaMoy field on Monday afternoon in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference quarterfinals.
The Lightning were outshot by a 13-3 total in the loss.
Cindell Aguirre (Cornonado H.S./ El Paso ,Tx.) posted eight saves for the Lightning.
Despite the loss, the Lightning season was deemed a success by first year head coach,
Brian Sheehan. " The strides that we have made from the beginning of the year to this point have been astronomical. I am so proud of how the girls competed each and every day. Although we will severely miss our four seniors,
Nicole Curry,
Danielle Semenza,
Danielle Scott, and Alex Smith, we have a young core to build for the future."
The Lightning finished this season with a regular season record of nine wins, five losses, and one tie. The Lightning had their most offensive season as an NCAA Division II member by scoring 43 goals on the season, with 122 total point adding assists (36). They tallied nine game winning goals. They took five penalty kick attempts, with 4 penalty kick goals, both of which are school records. The Lightning also tallied the most wins since the 2005 season.
The Lightning senior class of
Nicole Curry (Lenape H.S./ Mount Laurel N.J.),
Danielle Semenza (Hazleton H.S./ Hazle Township, Pa.),
Danielle Scott (Williamstown H.S./ Williamstown N.J.) and
Alexandra Smith (Pennsville H.S./ Pennsville N.J.), will be sorely missed however they experienced their most successful season of their four year careers.
Smith finished third in the CACC with 12 goals this season. Curry saw her most productive season offensively as she tallied eight goals on the season. Semenza notched six goals with two assists on the year. Scott was a lockdown defender for a back line that allowed 25 goals in 16 games this season.
