Women’s Soccer Dealt 3-0 Setback at Chestnut Hill in the CACC Tournament Quarterfinals

Goldey-Beacom kept things at bay in the opening half, but could not withstand a landslide in the second and was handed a 3-0 loss by Chestnut Hill in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals in Plymouth Whitemarsh, PA.

The first half was one in which the Lightning showed solid defense in being bombarded by the Griffins attack.  Chestnut Hill in the half had 12 shots, but Goldey-Beacom was up to the challenge with two-time CACC Goalkeeper of the Week Malaika Nunziata (Cape Town, South Africa) making three saves.

The second half did not go as well with the Griffins scoring just 2:35 into the stanza.  Virginia Perry launched a perfect corner kick from the left side and Abby Collins won the battle to head it home.

It got worse 80 seconds later.  Rebecca Dalton won a 50/50 ball on the right side, made several great moves to elude the defense and found Hayden Johnston.  The latter put a half volley on it into a yawning net for a 2-0 margin.

Johnston just under two minutes later competed her brace, putting a shot off Nunziata inside the left post for a 3-0 contest.

Nunziata finished with eight saves, Haley Esposito made five for Chestnut Hill (8-7-1) and Johnston attempted seven shots.

Goldey-Beacom (6-9-3) this season made the CACC Tournament for the ninth time in 11 seasons, doing so with a lineup that featured seven newcomers competing in at least 14 contests.  The Lightning set a new school record with an eight-game unbeaten streak, going 5-0-3 and outscoring their opponents 18-7.

Ryley Dixon (Pilesgrove, NJ) closed with a career-best 21 points and fellow sophomore Tess Pearce (Manchester, England) became the seventh in program history to record 10 assists in a season.
