Box Score Philadelphia, Pa.- The Lightning women's soccer team (8-5-1, 5-5-1 CACC) pulled off an upset win over the Holy Family University Tigers (10-5, 9-3 CACC) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at Tiger Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Lightning were lead by freshman
Megan Harvis (Delran H.S./Delran, N.J.) who tallied two goals in the win.
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Ursula Coyle netted her 4
th goal of the season off of an assist from Kimber Kissleback in the 22
nd minute.
From there it was all Lightning as Harvis went in all alone and beat the goalie for a 1-1 tie in the 37
th minute. Less than one minute later, Harvis tacked on her second of the day when she tucked in a header right into the center of the net off of a cross from sophomore defender
Becca Cordo (Hightstown H.S./Roosevelt, N.J.).
The Tigers, who seemed to be the stronger team statistically, outshot the Lightning 10-5 in the first half. However, sophomore goalkeeper
Cindell Aguirre (Coronado H.S./El Paso, Texas) fended off seven of the Tigers shots on goal in the first half to preserve the 2-1 at halftime.
Following today's win, Aguirre has enough qualified games to rank near the top in most major categories in the CACC for goalkeepers. She ranks 1
st in save percentage (.889), 1
st in goals against (3), and 2
nd in goals against average (.58).
The game was back and forth for the first 27 minutes of the second half before senior
Alexandra Smith (Pennsville H.S./Pennsville, N.J.) was taken down in the box by Kisselback. Senior forward Nicole Curry (Lenape H.S./Mount Laurel N.J.) buried the penalty shot, her second attempt in as many games for her 7
th goal of the season which pushed the lead to 3-1. The Tigers tallied only two shots in the last 15 minutes of the contest, none of which made it to Aguirre.
With Harvis' two markers today, she now has six goals on the season.
With Curry's goal today, she continues to make an offensive impact for the Lightning. She has tallied seven goals this season which is good for second place on the team.
With the win, the Lightning earned their sixth consecutive game on the road and are an impressive 7-1 on games played away from Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field this season. They will look to improve that record when they travel to Dominican College on Friday afternoon for a game set to begin at 1:00 PM.
The Lightning sit in eighth place in the CACC and will clinch a playoff berth with a win or tie against Dominican.
