NEWARK, Del. - Led by senior middle hitter
Katie Shorter (Broadneck H.S./Pasadena, Md.), Wilmington University (20-9, 15-2) used a strong defensive effort to earn its fourth straight win with a three-set victory over Goldey-Beacom College (5-20, 0-16) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at the Wilmington University Athletics Complex on Thursday evening.
The Wildcats, who earned their 14th consecutive victory over their local rivals, claimed the win by set scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-12. The win also allowed the Wildcats to remain in first place in the CACC South Division standings.
Shorter, who was one of three seniors playing in their final regular season home match, tallied seven kills with a .500 hitting percentage while adding three solo blocks and six assisted blocks. Meanwhile, sophomore outside hitter
Kaitlin DiGiacinto (Old Mill H.S./Glen Burnie, Md.) contributed seven kills with eight digs.
Sophomore setter
Alex Siolos (Westhampton Beach H.S./East Moriches, N.Y.) tallied 15 assists along with four kills, seven digs and three assisted blocks while junior setter
Kasey Couch (Glenelg H.S./Woodbine, Md.) added 11 assists with six digs.
As a team, the Wildcats tallied 12.0 total blocks and held Goldey-Beacom to a -.093 hitting percentage.
Junior outside hitter
Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) led the Lightning in the loss by tallying a match-high 10 kills along with seven assists and five digs while senior opposite
Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) posted 12 assists with three kills and three digs.
Junior defensive specialist
Niki Receveur (Concord H.S./Wilmington, Del.) contributed a match-high 11 digs for the Lightning.
The Lightning will play their final road contest of the season on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they travel to Post University for a CACC contest against the Eagles at 1 p.m.
