WILMINGTON, Del. – After splitting a pair of matches at the College of Saint Rose Kickoff Tournament last weekend, the Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team will open its 2012 home schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 5 when the Lightning host Philadelphia University at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field at 3 p.m.
It will also be the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener for both teams.
Now 1-1-0 on the season, the Lightning snapped a 15-match losing streak on Friday night with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against the host Golden Knights. After falling behind in the first half, the Lightning used a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes of regulation to earn their first win since a 9-0 victory against Lincoln in the 2010 season finale.
The Lightning dropped a 4-0 decision against Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon at the Saint Rose Tournament despite seven saves from junior goalkeeper
Carlos Meinhard (Caracas, Venezuela).
Freshman midfielder
Michael Harmon (Cape Henlopen H.S./Milton, Del.) led the Lightning to the victory over Saint Rose on Friday. He scored the first goal of his college career with a 20-yard blast into the far left corner that gave Goldey-Beacom a 2-1 advantage.
Harmon was named as the CACC Rookie of the Week on Tuesday after scoring in his college debut.
Off to a 1-0-1 start this season, the Rams are coming off a 2-1 comeback victory over Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday afternoon. Trailing by a 1-0 margin against the Cardinals, Philadelphia scored twice in the final 17 minutes to earn the victory.
Senior defender
Travis Lobb (Manheim Township H.S./Lititz, Pa.) tallied the game-winning goal for the Rams in the 81st minute off an assist from junior midfielder
Kyle Ferrier (Octorara Area H.S./Christiana, Pa.) while sophomore defender
James Ruff (Ocean City H.S./Seaville, N.J.) scored the Rams' first goal on Saturday, which also marked the first goal of his career.
The Rams also posted a 1-1 double overtime draw against 25th-ranked Charleston in the season opener last Thursday.
The Lightning will be looking to avenge last year's 2-0 loss against the Rams in Philadelphia. Goalkeeper
