NEW CASTLE, Del. – Freshman goalkeeper Ruel Gordon (Savanna La Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica) made five saves, including four in the second half, as Concordia College (3-6-1, 1-4-1) earned its second win in the last three games, a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (2-6-0, 0-5-0) at the Lightning's Kirkwood Soccer Complex.

Led by Gordon, the Clippers earned their third shutout of the season while also matching a season high with three goals.

Sophomore defender Jonathan Short (Tottenham, Canada) gave Concordia a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when he scored his second goal of the season after passes from junior defender Douglas Cambridge (Robbinsville H.S./Robbinsville, N.J.) and junior forward Ekene Okereke (Beliefield, Germany).

Just over eight minutes into the second half, the Clippers upped their advantage to 2-0 when sophomore forward Jesus Alvarez-Riesco (La Coruna, Spain) tallied his third goal of the season by converting a pass from junior defender Marco DiNello (Montville Township H.S./Montville, N.J.) to score past senior goalkeeper Ignacio Farias (Maracay, Venezuela).

The Clippers added an insurance goal in the 74th minute when junior midfielder Victor Ruiz (Gijon, Spain) scored off a pass from sophomore midfielder Ritsaert Weijers (Netherlands) for his first goal of the season.

The Lightning had their best chance to score in the 65th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick following a foul by the Clippers in the penalty area. However, senior forward Matt Bik (Sacred Heart H.S./Vineland, N.J.) had his attempt hit the right goal post, keeping the Lightning without a goal.

Farias made nine saves in a losing effort for the Lightning, who were outshot by a 30-21 margin. However, Goldey-Beacom had a 9-8 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lightning will travel to Chestnut Hill College on Monday evening to face the Griffins in a rescheduled match from Sept. 18. Opening kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
