NEW CASTLE, Del.
– Junior forward Danielle Semenza (Hazleton Area H.S./Hazel Township, Pa.) scored two goals as Goldey-Beacom College (1-7-0) earned its first win of the season, a 3-0 non-conference victory over Washington Adventist University (3-5-0) at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Semenza, who posted the first multi-goal match of her college career, scored once in each half as the Lightning snapped a 10-match losing streak, dating back to last season. It was their first win since an 8-0 victory against Lincoln University on Oct. 20, 2011.

The Lightning took a quick 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when Semenza scored off a pass from sophomore midfielder Nicole Curry (Lenape H.S./Mount Laurel, N.J.).

With 7:32 remaining in the first half, freshman forward Tiffany Kelly (Parsippany H.S./Parsippany, N.J.) upped the Goldey-Beacom advantage when she scored her second goal of the season off assists from freshman defender Coco Flores (Smithson Valley H.S./San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore forward Alexandra Smith (Pennsville Memorial H.S./Pennsville, N.J.).

Just over six minutes into the second half, Semenza added an insurance goal for the Lightning after converting a crossing pass from Smith for her third goal of the season.

From there, senior goalkeeper Alyssa Vetrano (Shore Regional H.S./Ocean, N.J.) and the Lightning defense held the Shock to just one shot en route to the victory.

While Semenza led the Lightning to the win, Vetrano made one save to earn the second shutout of her college career as Goldey-Beacom held a commanding 22-1 advantage in shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Noel (Chesapeake, Va.) made four saves in the first half for the Shock while sophomore Tasheika Russell (Hyattsville, Md.) added seven saves in the second half.

The Lightning will travel to Delaware State University on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. non-conference match against the Lady Hornets before returning home on Saturday for a 1 p.m. Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest against Concordia College.
