WILMINGTON, Del. - After posting a three-set victory over Bowie State on Thursday night, the Lightning volleyball team will finish its quick three-match road trip by traveling to Mercy College for a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday afternoon.
Goldey-Beacom will face the host Mavericks in the first match at 12 p.m. before playing against Southern New Hampshire at 2 p.m.
Now 4-3 on the season, the Lightning hit a season-high .313, including a .360 hitting percentage in the first set, to earn their third victory over Bowie State this season. After posting a pair of four-set victories over the Lady Bulldogs, the Lightning earned a three-set sweep with scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-8.
Sophomore outside hitter
Taylor Moyer (Blue Mountain H.S./Schuylkill Haven, Pa.) recorded a .643 hitting percentage with a match-high 9 kills in just 14 attempts. Meanwhile, senior setter/opposite
Monica Dempsey (Secaucus H.S./Secaucus, N.J.) contributed a season-high seven kills along with 15 assists. In addition, she added five digs and enters Saturday's match needing just five digs to become the fifth player in school history with 1,000 career digs.
Led by Dempsey, the Lightning rank second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with 63 service aces in seven matches this season. Dempsey is tied for fourth in the CACC with 16 service aces, including a pair of three-ace efforts this season.
Meanwhile, Moyer ranks second in the CACC by averaging 3.00 kills per set while sophomore outside hitter
Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) ranks third in kills per set with a 2.92 average.
Currently 1-4 on the season, the Mavericks earned their first win of the season on Thursday night with a four-set victory over Felician. Of the Mavericks' first five matches, four of them have been away from home. Junior outside hitter
Nicolette Gebhardt (Pine Bush H.S./Pine Bush, N.Y.) led Mercy to the victory with a match-high 15 kills while hitting .367 as the Mavericks earned a 25-15, 20-25, 25-18, 25-9 victory.
Sophomore outside hitter
Brenna White (Douglas H.S./Gardnerville, Nev.) leads the Mavericks with 70 kills and 46 digs in five matches while Gebhardt has contributed 39 kills this season.
Entering Saturday's matches, Southern New Hampshire has a 3-4 overall record after earning a four-set victory over Saint Anselm on Tuesday night. The Penmen will face Nyack on Friday night before participating in Saturday's tri-match.
Freshman middle hitter
Emma Houlihan (Shoreham-Wading River H.S./Shoreham, N.Y.) led the Penmen to the victory on Tuesday by recording a match-high 20 kills along with three blocks while senior outside hitter
Erica Solomon (East Islip H.S./Islip Terrace, N.Y.) added a season-high 17 kills and 14 digs for her third "double double" of the season.
Houlihan leads the Penmen and ranks second in the Northeast-10 Conference with 101 kills in seven matches this season while recording a .315 hitting percentage with a team-high 11 blocks. Meanwhile, Solomon has tallied 84 kills, which ranks sixth in the NE-10, and is second on the team with 79 digs.
Following Saturday's tri-match, the Lightning will return home to face the University of the Sciences on Monday night in a CACC match-up at 7 p.m. at the Joseph West Jones College Center.
