WILMINGTON, Del. - Hoping to return to its winning ways, the Lightning women's soccer team will begin its final homestand of the season on Tuesday afternoon by hosting Holy Family University at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex at 3 p.m.
It will be the start of a quick two-match homestand for the Lightning, who have posted two of their three wins this season at Kirkwood Soccer Complex.
Now 3-9-0 overall and 1-7-0 in the CACC, the Lightning had their two-match win streak snapped with a tough 2-0 loss against Post University on Saturday afternoon. Senior goalkeeper
Alyssa Vetrano (Shore Regional H.S./Ocean, N.J.) made six saves in a losing effort as Goldey-Beacom was outshot by a 13-4 margin.
After dropping their first seven matches this season, the Lightning have won three of their last five matches. A major reason for the team's recent success has been the play of freshman forward
Tiffany Kelly (Parsippany H.S./Parsippany, N.J.). Honored as the CACC Rookie of the Week last week, Kelly has scored all five of her goals in the team's last six matches, including a two-goal effort against Lincoln (Pa.) in a 3-0 victory on Oct. 3.
Meanwhile, junior forward
Danielle Semenza (Hazleton Area H.S./Hazle Township, Pa.) has contributed four goals with an assist for the Lightning.
With a 3-9-0 overall record and a 3-5-0 mark in the CACC, the Tigers have won two of their last three matches after posting a 4-0 victory over Bloomfield on Saturday afternoon to finish a three-match homestand. Senior forward
Megan Tole (Archbishop Ryan H.S./Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Tigers with a goal and an assist against the Deacons while senior goalkeeper
Rachel Dunkle (Fleetwood H.S./Blandon, Pa.) added six saves to earn her second shutout of the season.
Tole is the Tigers' leading scorer with five goals and three assists while freshman
Lisa Abramski (Kellenberg Memorial H.S./Lindenhurst, N.Y.) has contributed two goals with four assists. Meanwhile, Dunkle has played every minute in goal for the Tigers this season, posting a 2.08 goals against average while stopping 74.5 per cent of the shots she has faced.
The Tigers earned a 1-0 victory over the Lightning at Tiger Field last year as Tote scored the match's only goal in the 36th minute. Dunkle earned her third shutout of the season for Holy Family by making three saves.
The Lightning will play their final home match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 13 by hosting Caldwell College at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field on the Goldey-Beacom campus. Opening kickoff is set for 12 p.m. and the team's five seniors will be honored prior to the start of the match.
