Surging Women's Soccer Travels to Post on Saturday

Lightning Have Won Three of Last Four Matches

Amy Kelly and the Lightning will travel to Post University on Saturday.

WILMINGTON, Del.
- After earning its third win in the last four matches on Wednesday night, the Lightning women's soccer team will make its longest road trip of the season on Saturday when Goldey-Beacom faces Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at LaMoy Field. Opening kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.

Now 3-8-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the CACC, the Lightning have won back-to-back matches after posting a 3-0 non-conference victory over Lincoln University on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman forward Tiffany Kelly (Parsippany H.S./Parsippany, N.J.) led the Lightning to the win on Wednesday by recording the first multi-goal game of her college career with two goals and an assist.

The reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, Kelly gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead by scoring on a penalty kick in the 17th minute before adding another marker in the 53rd minute. She also recorded an assist on a goal by freshman midfielder Sheridan Vincent-Gobble (Oak Ridge H.S./Conroe, Texas) with 15:58 left in the match.

Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Vetrano (Shore Regional H.S./Ocean, N.J.) led the Lightning defense to its second shutout of the season by making two saves as Goldey-Beacom outshot Lincoln by a 14-5 margin.

With five goals in her last five matches, Kelly has taken over as the Lightning's leading scorer with five goals and two assists. Meanwhile, junior forward Danielle Semenza (Hazelton Area H.S./Hazle Township, Pa.) ranks second on the team with four goals and an assist. She scored three of her four goals in last week's two victories to earn CACC Player of the Week notice.

Currently 3-7-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the CACC, the Eagles will be looking to extend their two-match win streak when they face the Lightning on Saturday. Led by junior goalkeeper Grace McConnell (Leeds, England), the Eagles posted their first shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory at Bloomfield on Wednesday afternoon.

McConnell made two saves in the victory for the Eagles, who have won three of their last four matches. Senior Sara Cramer (Parsippany H.S./Lake Hiawatha, N.J.) gave Post a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute after taking a pass from sophomore Tessa Dunster (Westhill H.S./Stamford, Conn.) to score her first goal of the season.

Junior forward/midfielder Renel Dennis (Martin Van Buren H.S./Queens, N.Y.) added her team-high 10th goal of the year in the 69th minute, upping the Eagles' advantage to 2-0.

While Dennis leads the Eagles with 10 goals and an assist, senior forward Sabrina Sinopoli (Watertown H.S./Watertown, Conn.) has contributed four goals with five assists. Dunster has also added five goals with three assists for the Eagles, who are tied for fifth in the CACC with 20 goals.

Meanwhile, McConnell has started all 10 matches for the Eagles this year, posting a 2.13 goals against average while stopping 72.6 per cent of the shots she has faced.

The Lightning will be looking to avenge a 1-0 overtime loss against the Eagles in last year's meeting at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field. The Lightning outshot the Eagles by a 20-7 margin, but Dennis provided the victory when she scored in the second minute of the first overtime period.

After Saturday's match, the Lightning will play their penultimate home match of the season when they host Holy Family at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
