WILMINGTON, Del. - Opening a quick two-match road trip, the Lightning volleyball team will travel to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia on Friday night for a 7 p.m. Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match against the Devils at the Bobby Morgan Arena.
It will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. On Sept. 17, the Devils handed the Lightning a four-set loss at the Joseph West Jones College Center.
Now 4-11 overall and 0-7 in the CACC, the Lightning will be looking to snap an eight-match losing streak when they face the Devils after dropping a three-set match against Philadelphia University on Wednesday night at the Jones Center. Sophomore outside hitter
Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) led the Lightning by tallying a match-high 10 kills with five digs while senior setter/opposite
Monica Dempsey (Secaucus H.S./Secaucus, N.J.) contributed a "double double" with 11 assists and 10 digs.
Meanwhile, freshman setter
Jamika Townsend (King's Fork H.S./Suffolk, Va.) also posted a "double double" for the Lightning, posting 14 assists with 10 digs.
Ranked second in the CACC with a 3.29 kill per set average, McCoy leads the Lightning with 181 kills in 15 matches. In addition, she ranks second on the team with 19 service aces and 135 digs. Meanwhile, Dempsey continues to lead the CACC by averaging 0.62 service aces per set while posting 4.30 assists per set. She leads the Lightning with 228 assists and 136 digs.
Currently 8-9 overall and 3-4 in the CACC's South Division, the Devils will be looking to snap a two-match losing streak when they face the Lightning on Friday night. The Devils, who are 1-4 at home this season, are coming off a four-set loss against Georgian Court on Wednesday.
Sophomore middle blocker
Rachel Martin (Troy H.S./Troy, N.Y.) led the Devils in Wednesday night's loss by posting a match-high 11 kills and a .438 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, sophomore setter
Kaileen Bevenour (Washington Township H.S./Sicklerville, N.J.) added a match-high 28 assists with six digs. However, the Devils were held to a .118 hitting percentage by the Lions.
Sophomore outside hitter
Amanda DeAngelo (Vestal H.S./Vestal, N.Y.) leads the Devils with 164 kills in 16 matches while freshman middle hitter
Caitlyn Crawford (Covington H.S./Covington, Ohio) and freshman outside hitter
Desirae Lair (Las Vegas H.S./Las Vegas, Nev.) have each contributed 158 kills. Meanwhile, Bevenour ranks second in the CACC with 602 assists in 17 matches.
In the Devils' Sept. 17 victory over the Lightning, Lair recorded a season-high 20 kills and hit .395 as USciences held off a late rally by the Lightning to end a three-match losing streak. Meanwhile, Crawford tallied 16 kills with three service aces.
Dempsey led the Lightning in the loss by posting the fifth "triple double" of her career with 11 kills, 15 assists and 15 digs. She also hit a season-high .417 in the match with just one attack error.
The Lightning will finish their quick road trip on Tuesday night when they make the short trip to Wilmington University for a 7 p.m. match against the Wildcats.
