Women's Soccer to Face Caldwell on Senior Day

Lightning Look to Send Seniors Out With Victory on Homecoming

The 2012 Lightning Senior Class

WILMINGTON, Del.
- Hoping to send its senior class out with a victory, the Lightning women's soccer team will play its final home game of the 2012 season on Saturday afternoon by hosting Caldwell College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field on the Goldey-Beacom College campus.

Saturday's Homecoming match-up between the Lightning and the Cougars is slated to begin at 12 p.m. Prior to kick-off, the Lightning will honor its five-member senior class on the occasion of the final home game of their collegiate careers.

Now 3-10-0 overall and 1-8-0 in the CACC, the Lightning will be trying to end their two-match losing streak when they face the Cougars. On Wednesday afternoon, they dropped a 3-0 CACC verdict against Holy Family at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex. Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Vetrano (Shore Regional H.S./Ocean, N.J.) made seven saves in a losing effort for the Lightning, who suffered their sixth shutout loss of the season.

Freshman forward Tiffany Kelly (Parsippany H.S./Parsippany, N.J.), who earned honorable mention notice for CACC Weekly Awards this week, is the Lightning's leading scorer with five goals and two assists while junior forward Danielle Semenza (Hazleton Area H.S./Hazle Township, Pa.) has contributed four goals with an assist.

Meanwhile, Vetrano has played every minute for the Lightning this season and ranks sixth in the CACC with 67 saves. She has also produced a .720 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average.

After earning a 3-1 victory over Post University on Tuesday afternoon, the Cougars have won 9 of their last 10 matches and enter Saturday's affair with the Lightning with a 9-3-0 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the CACC. The Cougars are currently in fourth place in the CACC standings, but still have four conference matches remaining after Saturday's trip to Goldey-Beacom.

Junior midfielder Julie Crankshaw (Lacey Township H.S./Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) and sophomore forward Natalie Migoya (Morris Catholic H.S./Lincoln Park, N.J.) each scored a goal with an assist in the Cougars' victory over Post on Tuesday while sophomore goalkeeper Robin Franchi (Deptford H.S./Sewell, N.J.) made three saves as Caldwell held a commanding 27-6 advantage in shots.

Crankshaw is the Cougars' leading scorer with 17 points, including a team-high seven goals with three assists, while sophomore Ashlee Paknis (Pinelands Regional H.S./Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) has added three goals with four assists. Meanwhile, junior midfielder Carissa Strye (Nazareth H.S./Nazareth, Pa.) has tallied a team-high eight assists along with a goal.

The Lightning will be looking to avenge last year's 3-2 overtime loss against the Cougars after Caldwell overcame a 2-0 deficit to earn the victory. Sophomore forward Alex Smith (Pennsville Memorial H.S./Pennsville, N.J.) tied the school record with her 15th goal of the season while senior forward Kelly Williams (Copiague H.S./Copiague, N.Y.) matched the school record by earning her 11th assist.

After Saturday's match, the Lightning will end the season with a pair of road matches starting next Wednesday at Georgian Court University.
