PIKE CREEK, Del. - The Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team moved back above .500 with a decisive, 3-0 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Felician College on Sat. at the Joseph West Jones Center.

The Lightning (7-6, 3-2 CACC) rebounded nicely from a tough 3-2 loss to Holy Family at home on Thurs. night as they handed the winless Falcons their sixth loss in conference by scores of 25-22, 26-24, and 25-16.

Freshman Taylor Moyer led the Lightning with 11 kills and freshman Emily Shustack recorded six kills and five blocks (one solo). Junior Monica Dempsey, fresh off her career-high 44 assist performance against HFU, had another terrific all-around performance which included 22 assists, 18 digs and five service aces.

Felician had a slight edge in hitting percentage for the match (.140 to .137) thanks to a very precise second set in which the Falcons totalled 17 kills and just four errors. GBC made up for it by serving seven aces and not committing a single service return error. The Lightning also had two less service errors for the match.

The Falcons scored the first three points of the match, but Dempsey led the Lightning on a 5-0 response to take the lead. The run included three Dempsey aces and a kill apiece by senior Rebecca Stoffer (five kills, two block assists) and Moyer. Leading 10-9, freshman Kadi McCoy (four kills, four block assists, nine digs) helped GBC on a 4-0 run with a kill and two consecutive block assists with Stoffer as Felician called a timeout with the Lightning leading 14-9. The Lightning led by as many as seven (18-11) and were able to put the Falcons away, 25-22 for a set one win.

Two early service aces by Dempsey helped GBC get out to a 3-1 lead, but the Lightning were in for a battle from there-on-out. The Falcons rallied to score six of the next seven points to take a 7-4 lead, and then the Lightning score five of the next seven to knot the score at nine apiece. Trailing 16-14, GBC used a 4-0 run to pull in front, 18-16, but Felician scored the next two points to tie the score once again. Back and forth went the scoring until Felician broke a 22-22 deadlock with two straight points, bringing the Falcons one point away from evening the match. But the Lightning rose to the occasion and rallied to score the next four points and sneak away with a 26-24 win. GBC benefitted from costly Felician attack errors and kills by Shustack and Shaner to complete the comeback and take a 2-0 match lead.

GBC got off to a rocky start in the third set as the Falcons soared to an early 6-2 lead. A kill by Stoffer began an 8-1 Lightning surge highlighted by three kills and a solo block by Shustack. The run ended with a Moyer service ace to make the score, 10-7 Lightning. GBC then scored 11 of the next 14 points courtesy of several Felician errors, and took a commanding 21-10 advantage. Leading 24-11, the Lightning had to withstand a bit of a Falcon comeback led by Felician sub Massy Sanabria's three kills, but GBC eventually closed the door with a Moyer solo block to win the set 25-16 and claim a 3-0 match victory.

The Lightning next go on the road to take on CACC South Division foe Philadelphia University at the Gallagher Center on Tues., Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
