PIKE CREEK, Del. - Junior Matt Bik's penalty kick goal cut the Lightning deficit to 3-2 just before the 50-minute mark, but Goldey-Beacom could not convert the equalizer and Conor Rodgers added an insurance goal in the 86th minute to give visiting Holy Family a 4-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win on Tues. afternoon at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.

The Tigers (5-1, 3-0 CACC), coming off a 3-2 upset win over the pre-season conference favorite, Dominican College on Sat., had a commanding advantage in shots (22-9) and corner kicks (8-4), but the Lightning remained very much in striking distance until Rodgers' late goal sealed the deal. Junior goalkeeper Ignacio Farias made seven saves and allowed four goals in a full 90 minutes of work. HFU's Mark Ferretti made two saves and allowed two goals in his team's victory.

Holy Family struck first as Nicolas Delgado intercepted a ball that Farias rolled on the ground to an unsuspecting defender and fired a shot past Farias into the net for an early 1-0 lead.

Sophomore midfielder Andre Jank answered for the Lightning exactly 12 minutes later as he beat three Tiger defenders in the box and dribbled around the keeper and ultimately shot the ball into the lower right corner of the net for the tying goal.

The Tigers regained the lead in the 35th minute as Ira Woodruff's corner kick landed at the feet of William George who then fed Delgado for his second goal of the day. HFU tallied once more in the first half as Jeffrey Wimsey put in a rebound after the previous Tiger shot hit off the right post. The Tigers led 3-1 at intermission.

A foul in the box on Holy Family during a Lightning attack resulted in a penalty kick almost five minutes into the second half. Bik delivered his first goal of the year, beating Ferretti to the right side to bring GBC within a goal.

The Lightning furiously tried to tie the score at three as they generated several quality scoring opportunities. On one particulay play, junior Ricky Jackson made a nice feed to junior speedster Kwame Appiah who beat his defender and bolted down the middle of the field on the breakaway. Ferretti wisely came out to the top of the box and slid after the ball in front of Appiah's feet, upending Appiah and rendering him unable to make a play on what was suddenly a loose ball in front of the goal. Ferretti quickly discovered the ball in front of him and alertly dove on it to prevent a GBC scoring chance.

Later, Rodgers would add HFU's insurance goal in the 86th minute and the Tigers went on to win, 4-2.
