PHILADELPHIA - The Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team was defeated, 3-0 on Thurs. night on the road by Chestnut Hill in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at the Sorgenti Arena. The Lightning (8-10, 3-6 CACC) fell by scores of 19-25, 22-25 and 22-25.

Freshman Kadi McCoy had her fifth consecutive double-figure kill performance as she led GBC with 13 kills to go with just three errors, for a hitting percentage of .286. Senior Rebecca Stoffer added eight kills and team-highs of 16 digs and four blocks (one solo).

The Griffins improved to 9-12 overall and 4-5 in league play with tonight's win. They out-hit the Lightning .161 to .115 led by Alex DePalma's 14 kills with just one error (.333 hitting percentage). Sidney Chukuntarod directed the ofense with a match-high 33 assists, and Liz DiGregorio led CHC defensively with a match-high 24 digs.

In the first set, the two teams battled back and forth early on until the Lightning outscored the Griffs 6-3 to break a 7-7 deadlock and take a 13-10 lead. CHC responded with a 7-1 run though and took control of the set with a 20-14 lead. Four points was the closest GBC would come to staging a comeback as the hosts took a 1-0 match lead with  25-19 win.

Two kills by freshman Taylor Moyer and another by McCoy helped the Lightning stay within striking distance early in set two, but Chestnut Hill extended their 5-4 lead to 16-8 with an 11-4 run. GBC closed the gap to one with a 6-2 surge to make it 19-18, but the Griffins came right back with a 5-1 rally to pull ahead 24-19. The Lightning fought hard to forced extended set play as they ran off the next three points, the final two coming on consecutive kills by junior Monica Dempsey and McCoy. DePalma, however closed out the set for CHC with a kill for the final point as the Griffins won, 25-22 and took a 2-0 match lead.

The third set was a see-saw battle early on, with the Lightning pulling ahead by two on three different occasions, including a 10-8 advantage after a kill by senior Roni Shaner to force a Griffin timeout. After the timeout, however, Chestnut Hill took the match over with a 10-3 run to go up 18-13. Trailing 19-14, GBC went on a 4-0 march to pull within one, but the Griffins scored the next three straight points to go up 22-18. Then the Lightning used a 3-0 run to once again cut the deficit to one, 23-22, but following a CHC timeout, the Griffins scored the next two points (a DePalma kill followed by a Chukuntarod service ace) to close out the set, 25-22 and win the match 3-0.
