CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman Alexandra Smith tied the school single-season record with her 15th goal of the year while junior Kelly Williams tied the school single-season record with her 11th assist of the year, but the Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team's 2-0 halftime lead over Caldwell dissipated in the second half, and the visiting Lightning ultimately lost their season finale in overtime, 3-2.

Only three days removed from a 3-2 double-overtime loss to Georgian Court on Senior Day at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field, head coach John Cappiello's senior-laden squad fell to 0-4 in overtime games this season. The 10 seniors on the squad were 0-6-1 in overtime games throughout their Lightning careers.

Caldwell held a 26-11 shot advantage and took seven corner kicks to the Lightning's zero. Smith led the Lightning with four shots, three of which she fired on goal.

Senior Marissa Valladares scored on a free kick from 19 yards out just after the 20-minute mark to put Goldey-Beacom in front 1-0. Nearly eight minutes later, Williams' pass from the right side found the feet of Smith, who fired a shot from 12 yards out for the Lightning's second goal of the afternoon. This marked the fourth time this season the two have hooked up for a goal, and each of them tied respective school records in the process. Smith tied Renee Brechter's single-season goal record of 15, and Williams tied Lori Knabb's single-season mark of 11 assists. Both records have stood since 2002.

But once again, it was a tale of two halves for the Lightning, who surrendered two unanswered goals to the Cougars in a span of seven minutes during the second half and allowed the hosts to send the game to overtime. Giana Scerbo headed in a cross from Rebecca Stinger in the 57th minute and Megan Ferrara headed in a cross from Sarah Royse in the 63rd minute to even the score. Neither team would score in the remaining 27 minutes of regulation. In the final three games this season, the Lightning have been outscored 6-1 in the second half.

GBC did not even have time to register a shot in the overtime session as Ferrara took another assist from Stinger and scored from 15 yards out just 2:43 into the extra period for the gamewinner.

The Lightning 2011 seniors close out their careers on a three-game losing skid as Goldey-Beacom College finishes the season 6-9 overall and 4-8 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Smith and Williams, who helped the program turn a corner this year, whereby the Lightning tripled their win total from the previous season, are among 12 returning players for GBC as it once again looks to make a run for the CACC playoffs in 2012.
