PIKE CREEK, Del. – Kelly Williams, Karin Eriksson and Ashley Longo each tallied a goal in the first half and junior goalkeeper Kristin Degenhardt made nine stops to preserve a shutout as the Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season, 3-0 over Concordia on Homecoming Sat. afternoon at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.

This marks the third consecutive season the Lightning have won their Homecoming game, beginning with a 2-0 win over Bloomfield in 2008. GBC defeated Post, 3-1 last year on Homecoming Day.

With the win, the Lightning improved to 1-9-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Concordia fell to 2-11 (1-8 CACC).

GBC took 20 shots as a team for the day, which is the most since Sept. 18 when the Lightning took 25 shots in a 4-4 tie to Bloomfield. Senior Ashley Welch led the charge with a game-high five shots, putting four on goal. She assisted on the first Lightning goal of the day by sophomore forward Kelly Williams (3 SOG, 1 G) in the 7th minute of action.

Williams, who had come close to scoring several times in the Lightning's last two games against Nyack and Holy Family, broke through for her third goal of the season when she received a corner kick from Welch and sent a shot past Concordia's starting goalkeeper Jessica Nanan for an early 1-0 lead.

Junior Karin Eriksson tallied next for GBC as the game approached the 20-minute mark when she blasted a shot from about 35 yards out and beat Nanan to the upper corner of the net. The goal was Eriksson's second of the season, and 20th of her career.

Finally in the 33rd minute, junior Ashley Longo put in a rebound off sophomore Megan O'Connor's deflected shot for her second goal of the season to give Goldey-Beacom a commanding, 3-0 lead. GBC outshot Concordia 12-3 in the first half.

The Lightning defense held up for the remainder of the game, only allowing 11 Clipper shots on the day, nine of which were on goal. Degenhardt was up to the task, making all nine saves for her first victory of the season.

Up next for GBC is a road game at Philadelphia University at 4 p.m.
