PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team was out-shot 35-13 en-route to a 3-0 home loss to non-league Division II opponent St. Thomas Aquinas on Wed. afternoon at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.

The loss drops the Lightning under .500 at 4-5 while STAC improves to 3-4-1 for the season.

The GBC offense applied pressure throughout the game, but just when it did, the Spartan defense would stiffen, only allowing three Lightning shots on goal.

STAC opened the scoring near the 15-minute mark when a long Daniel Davren throw-in found the foot of Peter O'Malley, who passed to Jorge Mera for the Spartan goal. Mera would score again almost seven minutes later off an assist from Michael Lincoln to put STAC up, 2-0.

Neither team could generate any kind of offense in the second half. GBC starting goalkeeper Andrew Cairns came out of the game with an injury nearing the 70-minute mark, so freshman Ignacio Farias played the rest of the way.

With just over two minutes left to play in the game, STAC's Renan Lopes scored on a direct kick from about 25 yards out to give the Spartans a 3-0 win.

The Lightning are back in action on Sat. as they host Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Nyack College at approximately 3 p.m., in the second game of a doubleheader immediately following the GBC women's soccer game.
