LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - Goldey-Beacom College lit up Lincoln Field on Wed. afternoon with seven goals en-route to shut-out victory over host, Lincoln University.
Six different Lightning players scored goals, including two by sophomore midfielder Kwame Appiah. Senior midfielder Angel Rodriguez also pitched in with a goal and three assists.
GBC (2-2) took a season-high 35 shots while only allowing Lincoln to take seven. Freshman goalkeeper Ignacio Farias needed to make just one save to preserve the shutout.
Junior forward Erlin Rodezno started the offensive onslaught for the Lightning with an unassisted goal a little over 20 minutes into the game.
Appiah followed after the 30-minute mark with the first of his two goals. The goal came on a breakaway opportunity, with Appiah tucking the ball underneath Lion goalkeeper Andre Wilkinson (nine saves, seven goals allowed).
Approaching the 35-minute mark, freshman forward Ricky Jackson scored his first goal of the season off of the first of three feeds by Rodriguez. With that goal, the Lightning took a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
But the Lightning scoring did not cease come the second half, as Rodriguez went right back to work, finding sophomore midfielder Robert Cann for his first goal of the season and then Appiah for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Senior defender David Nimroozi would score on a penalty kick near the 70th minute, and then Rodriguez would add a goal of his own in the 83rd minute, for good measure.
GBC, after scoring just 20 goals all of last season en-route to a 3-13 season, has already scored 17 goals through just four games.
The Lightning now get set to begin Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play as they face Concordia College this Sat., Sept. 12 at 2 p.m.
