PIKE CREEK, Del. – Freshman forward Devonne Richardson turned in a season-high 19 points to lead all scorers as the Goldey-Beacom College women's basketball team posted a dominate 73-31 victory over Washington Adventist on Thurs. night at the Jones Center.

Richardson, who also added a team-high four assists, led four GBC scorers in double figures as redshirt-sophomore guard Jacinda Jones recorded 14 points and three steals, junior guard Janae Weldon pitched in 10 points with three assists and two steals and sophomore guard Evebonee Acosta came off the bench to score 11.

The Lightning shot a scorching 50.8 percent from the field for the night while holding the Shock to 25.6 percent shooting. They also forced 28 Shock turnovers which they then turned into 34 points.

GBC, as it has done all season, also dominated on the boards, 42-28. As a result, they outscored WAU 40-8 in the paint and had 15 second-chance points to the Shock's five.

Head Coach Jen Carleton emptied her bench in the second half, and the Lightning reserves did not disappoint. GBC's bench outscored the Shock's 35-15 on the night as Lightning bench players saw some quality minutes.

WAU would score the first points of the game on an Erin Duffie layup, but that would prove to be the Shock's only lead of the night. The Lightning would go on a 12-0 run, including seven points by Richardson, and would never look back.

The Shock would close within four at 14-10 at the 12:32 mark, but the Lightning defense held WAU scoreless for 7:16 as they went on a 17-0 run to go up 31-10. GBC held WAU to just 13 first-half points and took a 30 point lead as the two teams went into intermission.

The Lightning would not let up after the break, going on an 8-0 to begin the second stanza and extending their lead to 38 points over the first five minutes of action before Quianna Tiggle stopped the bleeding for WAU with a three-pointer.

WAU could get no closer than 31 points the rest of the way, as GBC's Lindsay Duck hit a three to give the Lightning their largest lead of the game at 42, and give the game its final score of 73-31.

GBC is back in action on Tues. night at 6 p.m. as they host their first conference game of the season against Philadelphia University at the Jones Center. Fans can follow the action on CACCtv.
