Women's Soccer Scores Big in New York

Throggs Neck, NY – Women's Soccer scores big in New York and gets first win of the season

 

The Lightning Women's Soccer Team traveled to Throggs Neck, New York to face off against SUNY Maritime College.  The Lightning went out and attacked the field straight off.  At 20:31 the Lightning were the first to strike.  The goal came from Jeanette Benson unassisted on a breakaway.  Slightly less than two minutes later Benson passes the ball to teammate Marisa Valladares for the Lightning's second goal.  Maritime College scored quickly after that to make the score 2-1.  At 29:18 it was Marisa Valladares again for her second goal of the season and the Lightning's third of the game.  Kate Attenberger assisted Valladares.  The Lightning led at the half 3-1.

 

The second half was more of the same from the Lightning.  At 59:39 Jeanette Benson scored her second goal to extend the lead.  The Lightning stayed on the offensive for the rest of the game.  With 2:10 left in the game Karin Eriksson scored for the Lightning. 

 

The Lightning defeated Maritime College 5-1 to pick up their first win of the season and put them at 1-1 overall.  Marisa Valladares and Jeanette Benson led the Lightning with 2 goals each.  The Lightning will host Columbia Union College at 3:00pm on Monday, September 8th.
