Wilmington, DE – Women's Basketball kicks off season with win over Concordia

The Lightning women's basketball team opened their season by hosting Concordia College of New York.  The Lightning going back and forth in the first half with Concordia, kept the game close.  The Lightning led at the half 36-32 with Lightning senior Kellyn Nolan leading the team in scoring for the first half with 12 points while Janae Weldon added 11 points and 5 rebounds. 

The Lightning went out in the second half and started off with scoring eight unanswered points to push their lead to 12.  Continuing to stay dominate in the second half the Lightning went on to out score Concordia 52 to 22 and claimed their first victory of the season 88-54. 

The Lightning were led by Kellyn Nolan with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.  Janae Weldon boasted 19 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals, while Arielle Alford posted her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds and adding 6 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. 

The Lightning will next face off against Millersville University on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 6:00pm.
