Wilmington, DE – Casey leads Lightning to victory over Holy Family
On Thursday afternoon, the Lightning men's soccer team played host to CACC rival Holy Family University. The Lightning went out to an early lead when Chris Casey headed home a cross from Matt Adkins at 13:06. Holy Family would tie the score with just minutes left in the first half.
The Lightning surged out to another quick goal, just 9 minutes into the second half. This time Chris Casey beat two defenders to score his second goal of the game. Continuing on his hot streak Casey provided a perfect pass to Angel Rodriguez for the third goal of the game.
The Lightning would strike again in the 83rd minute, as Kwame Appiah and Brandon Rooney connected for Rooney's first collegiate goal.
Holy Family tallied a late goal, to cut the Lightning lead. However, the Lightning held on for the 4-2 victory, and improved to 3-10 overall and 2-6 in the CACC.
The Lightning was led by Chris Casey's 2 goals and one assist, and Garret Shuler's 10 saves.
The Lightning will next play host to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at 1pm.
