Philadelphia, PA – Volleyball snaps losing streak with win over Chestnut Hill

 

The Lightning volleyball team traveled to Chestnut Hill College for a CACC match-up, and looked to sweep Chestnut Hill in the season series.

 

The Lightning started the first set with serving the ball hard and attacking the open corners of the court to charge ahead with a four point lead.  Continuing on the path the Lightning stretched out their lead to nine and defeated Chestnut Hill 25-16 in the first set.

 

With the second set underway, the Lightning would again find the power in their service game.  Keeping Chestnut Hill at bay with their largest lead of the set at seven the Lightning went on to take the second set 25-19. 

 

Serving was the name of the match for the Lightning.  With taking the third set 25-13, the Lightning scored seventeen points on their serve, with six service aces, and downed Chestnut Hill 3-0. 

 

The Lightning were led by Roni Shaner with 5 service aces, 19 set assists, and 7 digs, while Chalea Johnson nabbed 10 kills for the match.  Chantal Pierre added 6 kills, 2 service aces and 4 blocks to her resume, and AJ Hicks recorded 14 digs. 

 

The Lightning will take a week off before heading back to Philadelphia to face off against Holy Family University on October 21, 2008 at 7:00pm.
