REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Senior
Jeff Whiteside (Newark H.S./Bear, Del.) finished in a tie for 16th place to lead the Goldey-Beacom College men's golf team to a seventh place finish at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at the Kings Creek Country Club on Monday afternoon.
After posting a 323 in the first round, the Lightning responded by firing a team score of 306 in the second round to finish in a tie for seventh place with Lafayette College. The host Quakers won the event by carding a 10-over-par score of 578 while Monmouth University posted a score of 599 to earn second place.
Whiteside carded a 77 in the first round before trimming a stroke off his score in the second round to finish with a 153, earning a share of 16th place with five other golfers.
Meanwhile, sophomore
Matthew Scheeper (Delsea H.S./Franklinville, N.J.) and junior
Patrick McRae (Markham, Ontario, Canada) finished in a tie for 30th place after carding a 158 score. Scheeper posted a 75 in the second round while McRae had a 77 in the final round.
Junior
Justin Lesko (St. Mark's H.S./Newark, Del.) earned a share of 34th place after finishing the two-round event with a score of 160. After posting a score of 82 in the first round, Lesko fired a 78 in the second round.
The Lightning will be idle until Oct. 1 when they compete at the Chestnut Hill College Griffin Invitational.
