4/1/2024 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's Softball team swept the three major weekly awards from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and teamed with the Baseball squad to total four.

Senior debutant Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) was named Pitcher of the Week for the third time, freshman McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) earned her third nod as Rookie of the Week, junior debutant Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) was tabbed Player of the Week a second time and junior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) made Baseball's Weekly Honor Roll.

O'Shields went 4-0 on the week with 30 strikeouts, three complete games and just two walks over 21 innings.  She had at least six strikeouts in all four games, including 10 on Monday at Staten Island and eight Wednesday at Chestnut Hill.

In what truly has been a mind-blowing season, O'Shields is enjoying one of the best single-campaign's in the 34-year history as present of Goldey-Beacom Athletics.  A standout competitor who has the Lightning (15-18, 5-0 CACC) on a roll in the conference, O'Shields was named the league's Pitcher of the Week on March 11 and 18.

A dynamic player in a series of GBC Athletes who have become must-watch athletes, O'Shields is ninth in the country and first in the CACC with 146 strikeouts.  This already is the school's single-season record and has her 10th in school history.  Four times this season she has recorded at least 10 strikeouts, including 17 on March 15 vs. Saint Rose.

Owner of an 11-game winning streak, that win total is tied ninth among the school's single-season records and tied for 15th career in program annals.

Frank batted .474 (9-for-19) on the week with two RBI.  She had three hits and two RBI in game one Monday at Staten Island, two hits Wednesday at Chestnut Hill and two hits in game two Friday at Post.

Giving the Lightning stability at shortstop and in the leadoff spot, Frank has been a welcome addition and another one who has fortified the team's lineup.  She is first in the CACC with 45 hits, second with 11 doubles, ninth with a .388 batting average and 23rd with 11 RBI.

Bohmann hit .563 (9-for-16) on the week with two doubles, a home run and seven RBI over five games.  She went 3-for-3 in game on Friday at Post, ending with a double, a home run and three RBI.  Bohmann also had two hits in game two Monday at Staten Island and Wednesday at Chestnut Hill.

Bohmann has shown plenty of versatility and also more than staked her claim in the squad's lineup.  A solid infielder who has shown great power, she is first in the league with 37 RBI, fourth with four home runs and sixth with a .406 batting average.

Kolmansberger, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Hitter of the Week last week and the CACC Player of the Week the last two weeks, batted .455 (5-for-11) with two home runs, eight RBI and two stolen bases over four games.  He had three hits in Saturday's doubleheader against Bloomfield, including a grand slam in game two.

A tremendous hitter who at shortstop is one of the top defensive players in the East Region, Kolmansberger is batting .522 (24-for-46) during a career-best and team-season-high 13-game hitting streak with four doubles, seven home runs and 29 RBI.

Kolmansberger is first in the CACC with 33 RBI, third with seven home runs, fifth with 35 hits and 15th with a .350 batting average.

Goldey-Beacom (18-11, 4-3 CACC) is 23rd in the country and second in the East Region, both according to the NCBWA.
